The shape of something new
What defines a modern chair? With Rove, we set out to answer that question – rethinking everything from construction and comfort to aesthetics and sustainability. The result is a lightweight, stackable wooden chair that feels as refined as it looks, balancing strength and softness in one sculptural form.
Rove begins where most wooden chairs end – at the structure. Rather than relying on a visible frame, Swiss designer Jörg Boner took an unconventional approach: using the seat itself as the structural core. From this single element, the legs and backrest branch out in a seamless flow, creating a unified, efficient design. Made from just 12 mm plywood, Rove is incredibly lightweight without sacrificing durability. This innovative shell also introduces subtle flexibility – thanks to its gently elastic backrest – providing surprising comfort with every movement.
A form that follows presence
When empty, Rove makes a bold visual statement. Its sculptural silhouette draws the eye, with fine edges and soft curves expressing precision and care. But once in use, the chair recedes – allowing the individual to take centre stage. Its minimalist design translates into practical benefits too. Rove is stackable, easy to move, and suitable for dynamic spaces where flexibility matters. Available in Clear, Brown, and Black finishes, or customised in any RAL colour with a matt finish – it fits seamlessly into diverse interiors, offering architects the freedom to customise without compromise.
Smart, sustainable design from the ground up
Every aspect of Rove was developed with sustainability and efficiency in mind – from material choice to construction. Made from plywood sourced through closed-loop forestry and certified to the highest environmental standards, Rove minimises waste and impact throughout its lifecycle. By refining traditional methods, we create lighter, stronger, and more efficient structures without excess material. With this approach, we turn wood into durable, versatile products that combine precision, sustainability, and timeless design.
